Learning how to balance equations in math is an important skill. Not only does it help your students understand the role of the equal sign, but it also prepares them for more difficult math topics in the future such as solving for unknown numbers or a missing value in an equation! Since this is a self paced class, students can go through the course at their own pace to suit their personal learning style and schedule however, for maximum retention and practice one lesson a day is recommended. LESSON 1 Introduction to Balancing Equations Lesson 1 will focus on illustrating how the equal sign resembles a balance scale, as both sides must be balanced. To demonstrate this concept effectively, we will utilize math manipulatives like beans, counters, or any other small objects to provide tangible examples. LESSON 2 Addition equations with missing addends Lesson 2 will focus on addition equations with missing addends. Balancing math equations, particularly often involves the use of addition equations to ensure both sides of the equation are equal. LESSON 3 Subtracting Equations Lesson 3 will focus on balancing equations with subtraction. LESSON 4 Subtraction and Addition Lesson 4 will focus on adding and subtracting LESSON 5 Review Lesson 5 will review all concepts with extra worksheets provided to extend practice Materials needed for this class are a small whiteboard, pencils, printed material, crayons and scissors. I also recommend having either page protectors and/or Ziplock bags to put activities in that you can use again later and they can also be used to write on for a reusable worksheet if desired. 24 HOUR CLASS PREVIEW DETAILS Not sure if this class is the right fit?
