US Grade 1
Does your learner need to work on a specific phonics skill? Does your learner love Christmas? This class focuses on the long E sound. Our small group session will accelerate your learner's reading progress with phonemic awareness exercises and explicit phonics training. This Christmas themed lesson is kept short with a variety of activities to keep your learner engaged and moving forward. We will focus on different ways to spell the /ee/ sound with phonemic awareness activities, a fun word work game and a Christmas guided reading activity. Your learner will also be provided with a worksheet and ideas for ways to reinforce what they learned at home. Each learner will need: -dry erase white board/markers -pencil -crayons or colored pencils -printouts (provided in the classroom the Sunday before the week begins) We will do the following activities: 1. Phonemic awareness (From Haggerty Curriculum) These exercises will help your learner to hear and speak the sounds within words. 2. Word work Your learner will practice phonics skills with Switch it, Read it, Sort it or Write it activities. Some of these activities will be done online through the zoom feature, some the students will write on their own white board or write on their own printouts. 3. Guided Reading of a printout text. Learners will take turns reading the text with the teacher's assistance. Comprehension will be encouraged through summarizing and making connections questions. 4. Homework will be assigned for practice at home. Homework will include practicing the guided reading text with parents and a Christmas phonics worksheet.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the different ways to spell the /ee/ sound. Students will be able to recognize, sort and read a variety of words with the /ee/ sound.
