1-2 hours per week. Homework will be practice time in between scheduled lesson times. A total of approximately 20 minutes, 3-4 different times, should be enough to secure the information and be prepared for the next lesson. The homework expectations will be e-mailed to the parent and the learner at the end of lesson. Slides may be printed at the parent's discretion. Some slides will be duplicates of previous classes as we review the information. Students need to be able to view the screen share with my hints and helper markings during class. Printed slides are great for practice time when learners are taking a break from screen-time.Grading
includedClass Experience
This class is an introduction to piano lessons for beginners or review for students who have taken a long break from piano lessons. During this course, the lessons will build upon the knowledge of the prior coursework at the speed of the learners' abilities. Practice between classes is highly recommended. Access to a keyboard/piano and view of the screen while playing is necessary to participate during classtime. Please turn on "Original Sound for Musicians" in the Zoom audio settings before class. If you need instructions on how to enable this setting, please watch this youtube tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEZMRtrSsYY If you are unsure about your learner's level due to having some previous experience, please copy and paste the following link to take the Google Forms Self-Placement Survey : https://forms.gle/1JAjKonMvnEnQPHP7 **First 4 Piano Lessons is a great introduction to piano and can work as the pre-requisite for enrolling in the Piano Music Class series.** The progression of classes in the Piano Music Class Series: ** 1) First 4 Piano Lessons **THIS CLASS** - Multi-day class lessons 1-4 (Part A) ** 2) Piano Music Class 1 - Multi-day class lessons 5-14 (Part B) 3) Piano Music Class 2 - Multi-day class lessons 15-24 (Part C) 4) Piano Music Class 3 - Multi-day class lessons 25-34 (Part D) 5) Piano Music Class 4 - Multi-day class lessons 35-44 (Part E) 5b) Piano Music Class Supplement: Fur Elise 6) Piano Music Class 5 - Multi-day class lessons 45-64 (Part F) 7) Piano Music Class 6 - Ongoing class lessons 65-84 (Part G) 8) Piano Music Class 7 - Ongoing class lessons 85-104 (Part H) 9) Piano Music Class 8 - Ongoing class lessons 105-124 (Part I) Lesson 1: - Introduction to the keyboard of the piano and where to find the keys - Instruction on finger numbers, reading notes in Treble and Bass Clefs, and examples of musical exercises to build dexterity and form. - Some examples of musical exercises and songs in C position for right hand alone. Parental Guidance
Google Slideshow links for each lesson are provided after class to the learner's Outschool system email. Music slides may be printed for practicing off screens.
Any youtube videos posted on the Classroom page will be opened in a small window on Outschool. Learners will NOT be asked to go to Youtube on their own.
Supply List
Learners will need to view the new music on their screen during class. The music will be provided by e-mail following class that can be printed or viewed online for praciticing. Learners are NOT required to purchase any books or materials to participate in this class since I arrange and compose all of the music myself and provide it in the slideshow. Each learner should have access to a piano or music keyboard. Having paper and a pencil to take notes is helpful for some learners.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music from California State University, Long Beach
Hello! I am Mrs. Pauli. I am an online piano teacher for students who want to play songs and learn to read music! I have been a private piano teacher and music instructor for over 29 years after earning my BA in Music at California State University, Long Beach. My strength is in introducing music theory and piano skills to young students in a way that makes learners feel successful and confident. Students feel accomplished playing beautiful songs on piano while learning to read music and seeing their practice efforts pay off.

My classes run in a series starting from Piano Music Class Level A (Primer), next into Piano Music Class Level B through Piano Music Class Level K as consistent piano classes. Each class is billed weekly so learners can enroll in the appropriate level at any time based on mastery. There are approximately 20 unique lessons in each level so learners can enroll in a level at any week and continue as the schedule loops back to the start for Semester #2.
2025 Calendar:
Semester #1 : January 6 - June 2
(week off for: March 17-21 Spring Break)
Semester #2: June 3 - December 19
(weeks off for:
July 1-10 Summer Break,
August 25-Sept 5 Labor Day Break,
Nov 24-28 US Thanksgiving,
Dec 22-Jan 2 Winter Holiday)
I create my own curriculum so no book purchases are necessary and music is provided for learners. There are also performance opportunities, optional game classes, and holiday seasonal song classes. I offer a one-time assessment class that is available for learners who have previous piano experience as well as a Google Forms self-placement survey at this link: https://forms.gle/1JAjKonMvnEnQPHP7
⏱ A January 2025 survey of the Piano Music Class J (Advanced) students found that they have all been playing consistently for an average of 4 years and practice for an average of 3 hours total per week! Each of their schedules is uniquely dependent on family calendars and other commitments. They all intend to continue playing piano at least through high school or forever 💖. If you want to instill a love for music and piano in your learner, encourage a practice routine that is appropriate for their age and the level of material so they build the skills and experience consistent growth.
Minimum practice suggestions for small group class or private lessons students:
Piano Music Class A - 30 minutes per week (3 days : 10 minutes/day)
