What's included

1 live meeting
35 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
2-4 hours per week. Students should practice daily for at least 20 minutes (if possible) for the best retention of information.
Assessment
Students will be continually assessed during our lessons and know what they need to work on; I think that positive reinforcement gets the best results. There will be occasional quizzes or homework assignments outside of class but they will always be fun and they don't count towards a grade only individual betterment of the learner.

Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
Hi there and thank you for your interest in my class :)

Who this class is for:
This class is for individuals who have had some experience with playing the ukulele, but would like to learn more about playing melodies and understanding music theory. If your student is limited in experience, I suggest private one-on-one lessons with me prior to subscribing to this class :)

Purpose:
This class is specifically designed to help with fingerstyle technique in ukulele players. We will be focusing on how to read staff and tablature, understand musical symbols and time signatures, and we will learn the proper technique for fingerstyle ukulele.
This class will also provide general instruction on strumming and ukulele performance, but with an emphasis on fingerstyle and music theory (which I feel most classes lack).

What we will learn:
In this class we will be focusing on playing melodies that range from classical music to current favorites, and beloved ukulele staples. We will also be focusing on playing various musical scales and learning finger exercises meant to strengthen our playing! Mixed into class will be general lessons in music, strumming, and ukulele technique.

How is class structured:
Class will meet weekly. We will go over last week's practice, talk about any issues the group is having prior before our new lesson, and then do a review. I will talk about our new lesson, perform examples or exercises, and then we will perform them as a group or individually as seen fit for the lesson.

Week 1 March 18th: Learning our First Major Scale: What is a scale and how is it made?
Week 2 March 25th: An Introduction to Tab and Sheet Music
Week 3 March 1st: Learning our First Songs: Ode to Joy/ Happy Birthday
Week 4 March 8th: An introduction to Musical Symbols; Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

*Please note that this is a general guideline for our first set of classes. Some lessons may take longer than one week, and some may not. This means lessons or exercises may be added during class, or we could stay on a subject longer due to the needs of the group. Other lessons may be guided or dictated by the group's interests as well, meaning content may change.

Classroom Vibe:
This class is a judgement free zone. I'm a fun and relaxed teacher, I think kids should be challenged creatively, but never made to feel inadequate in their road to learning. I tell all my students that mistakes are a normal part of learning, and we need to make them before we can be strong players.

Beginner continued lessons will ALSO provide you with:

*Basic understanding of the ukulele
*Feedback on technique
*Strumming and picking techniques
*Lessons in rhythm and time
*Basic chord structures and an introduction to scales
*Material for practice
*Encouragement!
