Finding Great College Scholarships (for Grades 9 -12)
In this 6 week course, meeting twice weekly, students will learn how to write a essay, set up a scholarship online calendar. to enable them to efficiently apply for scholarships for US colleges and research scholarships in 19 categories!
What's included

12 in-class hoursAssignments
1-2 hours per week. Assignments are scholarship applications. There is no guarantee students will be awarded any scholarships as that is the decision of the scholarship donors. However, they will learn of numerous little-known scholarships and canchoose those for which they qualify (such as ones specifically for students in their state or city).Grading

Advanced Level
Students will learn the scholarship categories and how to locate the latest ones with links to their applications if available online. They will learn an efficient way to apply to them. The more scholarships they apply to, the better their chances of winning some. At the beginning of each session, I will present the new material and ask students to name the scholarships they applied to since the previous class for homework. Students can choose any scholarship to apply to from the previous class's category. We will end with a discussion.. There will be a few slides in each session for visual learners and students who my have a hearing loss.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about how to write an. essay for a scholarship and how to locate college scholarships. Time spent outside of class is to apply for scholarships of the student's choice. I am aware that your student may be very busy with schoolwork, job
Syllabus

Intro, the plan for efficiency, location scholarships
We will learn how to set up a scholarship application plan using a Google online calendar and how to find scholarships reserved for people in your US state, territory or city.

Lesson 2:
How to write great scholarship essays and scholarships based on your age
We will discuss scholarships reserved for 9th, 10th and 11th graders and why you should learn now about those reserved for seniors. We will talk about writing memorable essays.

Lesson 3:
Scholarships based on the month, season and holiday
How to find time-based scholarships. Choose 2 for each month, with deadlines in
Jan - June and put them on your Google calendar. Homework: apply to a scholarship of your choice due in November.

Scholarships for international students and those based on your special interes
How to find scholarships for international students, for study abroad and for people with certain special interests. Put them on your Google calendar. homework: Apply to one scholarship of your choice.

Learning Needs
This class can be modified to support unique learning needs IF parents/students share their requested accommodations in advance. The teacher can speak more slowly and more information can be put in writing on request.
Parental Guidance
This class has been rescheduled for Wed and Sat, starting Wed January 13, from 7 - 8 PM EST. .
Pre-Requisites
Learners should know how to write a regular essay and have access to the free version of Grammarly if correct spelling or grammar are difficult for them. Access to a computer with a search function, such as Google, is essential.

External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have worked online with families to present this information, but felt that peer pressure in an online class would be more effective in encouraging students to actually apply for the scholarships. I have written an e-book and an on-demand video, Searching for Scholarships...the Easy Way.
