Each week, students will receive a handout with key terms that they will learn in class to assist in note-taking. There will also be homework each week to help drive home the points learned in class. The first week, we will create a mock stock portfolio based on current stock prices and we will see whose portfolio outperformed the rest, and why, in the last class. Each week, students will have an assignment that will take about an hour per week. No background knowledge about finance is needed to join. Learning Goals
This class is a great way to introduce yourself to the great big, and sometimes confusing, world of finance and begin the path to be a financially independent adult.
Upon leaving this class, your child will have an understanding of the importance of investing and how the stock market works, banking and how credit works as well as how to do basic financial calculation such as what your student loan payments will be or your expected retirement account balance given an initial investment of a certain dollar amount.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Finance has been a passion of mine since I was young. As a child, my mother used to let me help her write checks for the bills that came in the mail and she taught me how to responsibly use a credit card at the age of 14. My mother went on to write a book about Personal Finance and I went on to earn two business degrees from Georgia State University. While in college, I was amazed at how many adults did not know the basics of personal finance such as opening a savings account, how to buy stock or how their credit score is calculated. Now that I have a family of my own, I teach my children age appropriate finance, which I want to share with you.
