This weekly ongoing class will teach students how to analyze film clips for film elements - lighting, sound effects, music, and camera angles and organize their thoughts into amazingly impressive analysis speeches. Students will compete for the coveted winner certificate for the best analysis each week. Each class will include a short lesson in film-making and thinking like a film maker. Students will then watch a short film clip from a movie OR a short film (less than 5 minutes in length). Students will then spend a few minutes organizing what they saw in a clear 1-2 minute analysis speech with a focus on the week's lesson. Additionally, each student will evaluate other students' analysis according to a provided rubric. Students will receive verbal feedback on their analysis from a professional film actor, director, producer, and public speaker. As time allows, we will watch and analyze an additional film clip. Students will be selected to deliver their analysis randomly and will vote for the speaker they felt best analyzed the film. Week #1 (2/13-2/19): Film Lighting Week #2 (2/20-2/26): Sound Effects Week #3 (2/27-3/5): Music in Movies Week #4 (3/6-3/12): Camera Shots Week #5 (3/13-3/19): Camera Angles Week #6 (3/20-3/26): Camera Movement and Special Effects (Since not all aspects of each topic can be covered in one class, different elements will be discussed each week and this schedule will repeat, but with new film clips to analyze) Students will gain the ability to identify various film techniques used by film makers to make them feel in particular ways and to tell stories. This will help them in their future film careers, their ability to speak and organize speeches, as well as watch film material critically. The competition element of this class encourages students to excel as they learn from each other.

I fell in love with teaching because I truly enjoyed watching my students fall in love with learning! I LOVE sharing the things I love - Theatre, Public Speaking, Words, Games, Communication, Writing, and Life Skills! I have tons of energy and enthusiasm that is contagious - I make learning fun!
I achieved a life-long dream when I sold my children’s theatre in South Florida to travel the United States in an RV (with my husband, kids, and dog) and teach! We have recently settled down (temporarily) in Las Vegas!
As a professional actor, director, and producer, I am passionate about the performing arts and the skills students get from participating in it. As a professional speaker and speech writer, I love to teach students how to effectively find their voice and communicate their message with the world! I have taught students of all ages - Acting and Directing, Speech & Debate, Public Speaking, SAT Prep, Writing, and various Life Skills like Memory and Goal Setting. I love my thousands of students across the world - past, present and future! I am also a Toastmaster and an IEW teacher. I am the founder of the Articulatable Membership!
I have a BA in English, a Minor in Theatre, and a Masters in Education, Curriculum and Instruction. My years of life and teaching experience make me a great match for many types of learners.
I have 4 kids of my own (ages 28, 26, 14, and 12), an amazing husband (Hugh Coley, who also teaches on Outschool as "Mr. Yo"), an adorable dog, and an amazing life! I look forward to helping your student fall in love with learning!
