Beginner Level
This is an exciting and fun class that is centered around figurative language. Each week, learners will discuss two figurative language types and see a variety of examples. Then learners will write a sentence of their own with an illustration that provides a visual to reflect an understanding of the figurative language. I will show the learners examples via power point slides and discussion. This class is very interactive, but is also perfect for shy learners because learners can choose how interactive they want to be. I never ask students to share pictures or sentences, unless they want to share. I am a very relaxed and easy-going teacher who enjoys having fun! This class is relaxed and does not require a prior knowledge of figurative language. Students are always welcome to interact with each other or the teacher. This is a fun way to learn simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, oxymoron, personification, alliteration, idiom, hyperbole, etc. Week 1: Simile and Metaphor Week 2: Onomatopoeia and Oxymoron Week 3: Personification and Alliteration Week 4: Idiom and Hyperbole Each week we will review in order to keep the figurative language examples fresh.
Learning Goals
Figurative language is an excellent tool for writing. This class will help learners grasp an understanding of different figurative language types to incorporate into sentences and stories.
