Students will improve their understanding of the seven elements of story: theme, characters, setting, point of view, plot, conflict, and resolution. They will practice narration as a way of helping them to make the knowledge their own and interacting with the story in a deeper way. 

I taught in public school for 5 years. I have homeschooled my own children and others for the last 25+ years. I have used many of the Charlotte Mason methods in my homeschooling, including narration. I have studied Charlotte Mason's methods for the last 20+ years and have a good understanding of how to use them.

Homework Offered
Homework will consist of reading four chapters a week and writing a narration for one or two of those chapters each week in the narration journal. An audiobook may be used, but make sure it's unabridged, so you get the whole story. The student may read the book or have it read aloud to them. Some weeks will have an additional assignment from the narration journal for writing about favorite parts of the story or other extra writing assignments. 
2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
The written narrations will be part of the assessment process. The other assignments will also be used to assess progress. It will be an informal assessment with lots of affirmation for effort and a few suggestions for improvement.
