Fashion & Makeup of the Ancient World Camp PART 1 (Early Civilizations)
Class experience
In this class, students will be introduced to ancient fashion and makeup styles from a new civilization each day. They will be shown pictures with a discussion of colors, their sources, and other interesting facts. We also will discuss how we know what they wore in the past. If you have already taken some of these as a one-time class, I will refund you $12 for each class. You must let me know upon enrollment! Then you can choose to join us for that day or not during the camp! Then...
Students will learn about ancient fashion and makeup, fine motor skills (coloring), and discussion with their peers.
I am an archaeologist and museum educator! I have worked to engage young students with the ancient world and history at numerous events.
I will provide some coloring pages, but parents are encouraged to look up others to print if their students don't like them. Please print at least one, or provide paper for them to draw on. Supply List: 1. Colored pencils/crayons/markers/etc. 2. Blank white paper 3. Coloring pages 4. A space to draw You can also purchase or google/print croquis (basically outlines of people that fashion designers use) at a low cost if desired. This is completely optional, but some students have used these in the past. Some students like to attempt the makeup of each civilization - this is totally fine by me as long as parents agree with the student ahead of time.
Out of respect for cultures which still exist, I ask that you do not try out the makeup on yourself during our class time unless you have a connection to it yourself. Parents, please have a conversation about appropriation versus appreciation with your learner if you choose to try out the makeup outside of class time for educational purposes (: We will discuss some history of oppression where needed in an age-appropriate way.
