Class Experience

This one-time class is ideal for those who love the costumes of queens and princesses in historic dramas and fairy-tale films. It is your chance to create your own unique royal costume design! With the help of a printable fashion figure template, all levels of experience in fashion design - from complete beginner to experienced young designer - can develop creative designs for their favourite fantasy character. At the end of the class you will have at least one princess costume drawing completed in colour.

Class Structure:
We start by looking at some historic costumes worn by queens and kings, such as Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth I and Napoleon. Then we discuss a variety of fantasy characters, such as Disney princesses, warrior princesses, elves and fairies. You will decide what kind of costume you want to draw and create a colour palette for your fashion sketches. Some students complete several designs while others focus on refining one drawing. At the end of the class there is the opportunity to share your costume designs, if you want, and tell us about your design choices.

This class is a great introduction to costume design drawing. If you love it, then you can join my ongoing fairy-tale costume design class and draw a new costume each week!
