Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
If your child is interested in a career in fashion design, this course is for you! Learn the inner workings of the industry and how to develop a collection alongside a seasoned fashion designer. At the end of the course, learners will have a full sketchbook and a completed portfolio project that replicates the work shown in fashion design portfolios.

Each week, learners will be expected to upload their weekly projects before the start of the next lesson. I will be working alongside everyone, giving feedback, offering ideas, and helping along the way!

Throughout the course, we will work together and explore how to think like fashion designers. In the last week of class, we will be learning how to communicate our design ideas and share the collections we've created! Additional resources and custom design development templates will be provided. See below for basic materials needed. No previous experience is required.

✨ This course replicates my first semester college course Fashion Design Concepts. The more work is put into each weekly project, the more your student will get out of the course.

- access to Google Slides, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint or similar
- a camera is not required, but could be used if learners prefer to use some of their own photos

*If you don't have any found materials, the print-outs included will provide the basics of what is needed

**OPTIONAL: Three-ring binder with clear sleeves or portfolio binder. If you'd like to start a fashion design portfolio at home, this is an easy way for children to keep a collection of their work. Creating a book is a great tool in learning how to communicate design ideas and projects.

Sources
Websites that will be recommended for some of our weekly projects include vogue.com (fashion and runway sections), wwd.com nowfashion.com, firstview.com, Pantone.com, and the e-commerce sites of learners' favorite stores. If your student would prefer to not use any digital media and create a physical trend report, fashion magazines (Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, InStyle, etc), catalogs, and/or their own photographs can be used instead.
