US Grade 5 - 8
In this exciting, book-themed club, we will go through a book each season, diving into discussion on themes, literary connections, characters, and other topics the students are excited to talk about. In a fun, casual environment, learners will get critical reading and interaction skills, and learn to love books OR to foster the love they already have. We will use discussion and activities to dive in-depth into really engaging stories that the students will have a say in choosing each time we finish a book and choose a new one. My style in classes and clubs are similar--super fun and student-centered. I've been called Ms. Frizzle more than once! This club will be highly inclusive and interactive, and should make reading and talking books an awesome experience. Learning Needs
This class will be highly effective for learners with ADHD and ASD, and I have a lot of experience with neurodivergent learners (especially having ADHD and ASD myself). Happy to accommodate other needs as well, including dyslexic learners.
Supply List
For the first book club, students will need Percy Jackson and the Olympians -$7 in paperback or free from the library. Students can also feel free to listen to the audiobook, which is free from the library (Overdrive) if they prefer! There will occasionally be activities for which supplies should be minimal.
Language of Instruction
English
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been an author for teens and children for over a decade. I have a number of teen works on the shelves, my most recent being published by Harper Collins, but I've gotten to ghostwrite series for middle graders as well! I've been teaching classes in language and doing bookish workshops at libraries and at cons for years, and I'm so excited to bring my love of reading to your kiddo.
