Yayoi Kusama has been called the most famous and successful living artist today. This art class is inspired by the 91 year old Japanese artist. Her artwork, including paintings, sculptures, and installations, are often described as dream-like. Her artwork is eye-catching and unique, just like Kusama herself! Pumpkin paintings and sculptures decorated with copious dots are a popular theme in her work. During class, students will learn about the life of Yayoi Kusama with slides, photos, and fun facts about her life. We will also talk about pumpkins and their role in fall, and the traditions surrounding decorating pumpkins and gourds during the fall harvest season. Students will then draw a guided drawing along with me, and we will have time to make up to three pumpkins together, depending on the natural speed and ability of the students enrolled. I will discuss pattern, repetition, and color as artistic themes in the project. Students will then have freedom to experiment with color and dot patterns on their pumpkins. Towards the end of class, students will be encouraged to share their artwork to the class and discuss their artwork with each other. My teaching style is relaxed, and I love to encourage creativity and new ideas in a supportive environment. My artist philosophy is that there is no right or wrong way to learn about art, which leads to more creativity, uniqueness, and bravery to try new concepts.

Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art classes include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, elementary art projects that work on skill building, and learning about art history through fun projects about artists - including Non-Western and Women artists.
I teach art from my heart and aim to build self esteem in my students through the arts. I challenge students to find their inner artist through creativity and self expression. I believe in the process of art, individual expression, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each art project is designed to develop technical skills, artistic interpretation, and unique artwork. We have lots of fun while making artwork and socializing is encouraged during my art classes.
My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.
