Class Experience

In this one-time course students will receive information and visuals in a slide presentation. There are 22 slides, one for each species covered in the course. All slides will have 1-2 representative photos of the species being discussed on the page and will have both the common name and scientific name for students to observe. Key identifying features of each species will be discussed, this can range from petals, stamens, leaves, leaflets, stems, texture, growing habit, and color. Other text on the slide will include these and other notable information on the plant needs, habitat, optimal growing conditions, propagation methods, and bloom seasonality. Each species will also be introduced as a perennial or annual species and what the difference between these two is and means for each species discussed. Newer terms used to describe these characteristics to your learner may need verbal elaboration and definition from the teacher not provided on the slide.
Students will be encouraged to read and speak the common and scientific name together as a class. Students will also be able to volunteer to read the text on the slides. If there are no volunteers, the slide lecture will be led by the teacher. Added notes and definition of terms will be provided by the teacher as we go through the slides.
No prior knowledge is needed for this course. Elementary knowledge on plant sciences, scientific naming, and fall seasonality may help students understand and retain more from this course.
Learning Goals
