Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Learners will have loads of fun and laughs as they build essential reading skills with tummy-tickling versions of beloved fairy tales turned into read-aloud plays that they act out! Come laugh at these hilarious twists on fairy tales that every one knows.

What happens when Cinderella wears shoes she's made from recycled materials to the ball? Learners exercise their sense of humor with lively plays each week that take the plots, characters, and settings of traditional fairy tales and turns them upside down and all around until their stomach is in knots from laughing. Learners will read and act out the part they have chosen while building their fluency, including improving accuracy, pace and expression.

Learners learn a brief history of each fairy tale in this once a week ongoing class full of fun and laughter. Learners will read and familiarize themselves with a traditional version of each fairy tale at home BEFORE they come to class. Then learners will read aloud, act out a fabulously funny version of that fairy tale play, discuss and evaluate their performance. We'll have fun laughing, learning, reading and acting in our "Fabulously Funny Fairy Tale Plays - So You Thought You Knew This Fairy Tale."

Reading, acting and putting on plays, some of my favorite things to do with young learners throughout my 50+ years in the education field. I've been a teacher, still am, Principal, online teacher of students 4 years old to seniors. My experience has been in the public school arena, in urban and rural settings, in the U.S., Africa, Asia and South America.

One year when I was a Principal, I performed in the cast of A.R.T., a teacher-based theatre group made of teachers, staff, and yes the Principal, me, who put on plays four times a year for the entire student body. Oh what fun! I also performed the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker when I was a young girl and in Oliver when I was in high school. I remember those experiences and your learner will be talking about the roles they played for years to come when they enroll in Fabulously Funny Fairy Tale Plays - So You Thought You Knew This Fairy Tale with me today.
