Extraordinary Essays is designed to guide learners through the process of writing an Opinion Essay. 📚Learners will start by reading a debate on a specific topic. They will choose the side they agree with and form their opinion. 📝 Learners will be taught how to organize their essay into five paragraphs: an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. 📝 The introduction will include a hook to grab the reader's attention, a clear thesis statement, and reasons that support their opinion. 📝 Each of the three body paragraphs will present a reason that supports the learner's opinion. Learners will provide evidence and examples to back up each reason. Followed with elaboration sentences. 📝 The conclusion will summarize the main points, restate the thesis in a new way, restate their three reasons, and provide a final thought or call to action. 📝 Learners will learn to use appropriate academic vocabulary to strengthen their arguments. Transition words and phrases will be introduced to help learners connect their ideas smoothly. 📝 Correct grammar and spelling will be emphasized throughout the writing process. Learners will be encouraged to proofread and edit their work to ensure accuracy. 📝 By the end of the class, learners will be able to write a well-structured five paragraph Opinion Essay on the debatable topic that clearly expresses their viewpoint with strong reasons and evidence. Class Structure: 👩🏻🏫 Each class will begin with a mini-lesson that teaches the specific skill for the day, such as writing an introduction, developing body paragraphs, or using transition words. ✍🏻 After the mini-lesson, learners will have time to work independently on their essays. During this time, the teacher will confer with students individually, providing personalized support and feedback. 🎤At the end of class, learners can share their paragraphs with teacher and other learners.
