In this 6-week self-paced class, learners will learn about abstract expressionism and how artists use five different mark-making techniques in abstract art to express emotions.

 Week 1
Lesson 1
Chaos/Energetic Lines Mark-Making
In this lesson, we will explore the emotions associated with chaotic and energetic lines and brushstrokes in mark-making. Additionally, you will receive a brief introduction to Abstract Expressionism, an overview of artists' work, and I will demonstrate my approach to capturing the chaos and energy in abstract art through mark-making.

Lesson 2
Organic Lines and Forms Mark-Making
In today's lesson, we're going to explore how emotions connect with organic lines and forms we create through mark-making in abstract art. I'll show you some examples of this type of mark-making and do a demonstration to help you grasp the concept.

Lesson 3
Falling Dots/Pattern Play Mark-Making
In this lesson, we'll discuss how feelings are tied to the falling dots or patterns we create through mark-making in abstract art. I'll share some examples of this type of mark-making and then demonstrate it for you.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Peaceful, Profound (Horizontal & Vertical Lines)
In today's lesson, we'll explore the emotions linked with horizontal and vertical lines and brushstrokes in abstract art. I'll provide examples of this mark-making and demonstrate it for you to better understand.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Circles and Overlapping Orbs Mark-Making
In this lesson, we'll discuss the emotions tied to circles and overlapping orbs in abstract art. I'll share examples of this mark-making and then demonstrate it for you.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Combining Marks
In this lesson, we'll explore various artists' works to observe how they blend different mark-making techniques. Additionally, I'll conduct a demonstration to illustrate how you can combine various mark-making methods to create a distinctive painting of your own.
Students will explore color theory, color psychology, and basic composition while making an abstract piece. They will be able to finish six paintings while discovering their artistic style.
Homework Offered
Learners will post their paintings in the classroom.
