This course provides students with an understanding of the visual communications processes. The course is an overview, which only begins to scrape the surface of the field of graphic communication.

You will walk away from this course knowing a little bit about a lot of things, but you may not master any one area. If any topics are of particular interest to you, your instructor will offer further opportunities for research and study.

Students completing the course will be able to describe, demonstrate, compare, analyze, integrate and critique presentations related to the principles of design through:


•   PowerPoint (or other presentation software)
•   Principles of design
•   Fundamentals of graphic design and typography
•   Basic concepts of imagery
•   Theory and use of color
•   Ethical ramifications of visual communication

To access the instructional materials, you will need access to a computer that has Adobe Acrobat and Flash Player installed. You can download Acrobat Reader and Flash Player from www.adobe.com.

To complete the presentation assignment, you must have access to a computer with PowerPoint or other presentation software and Adobe Acrobat. All files must be converted to PDF format prior to optional submission.
