1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Students in this class will be introduced to positive and negative space. Class will begin with a short discussion about this element of art, while looking at examples. Next, students will be guided step-by-step to use the concept of positive and negative space in their own notan style (a Japanese art style) art work. The project we will create together involves cutting construction paper and using both the cutout shapes as well as the paper that now has holes in it to create positive and negative space. After gluing the construction paper in an artistic way we will use a coloring medium to add texture and details to our art work. At the end of class, each student will have their own positive and negative notan style artwork to be proud of!
Learning Goals
Students will leave class being able to explain positive and negative space and use it in their own artwork.
