Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Insects. Bugs. Arthropods. It does not matter what you call them, we find them everywhere! They might make us squirm or they might make us stop in our tracks to watch their behavior. One thing I know is they are fun to talk about AND they make for excellent math games! In this class, we will practice important math skills such as measuring, addition, sorting and patterns using props of various insects we might see around our cities!

This class is highly interactive and requires zero supplies! After introductions, learners help fill in lyrics to "The Ants Go Marching." We measure wiggly worms to determine which is shortest and which is longest. Learners also help me "build" butterflies by adding the wings together to match the number on the butterfly's body. We sort ladybugs and we practice creating patterns, with learners getting to take turns to create their own.

My goal in this class is to make learning fun and even a little silly because making learners laugh is always a treat! So let's explore math with insects together!

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a preschool teacher, I facilitated small group instruction. I would use props and materials to make learning tangible and interactive for my learners. As a nanny, I helped supplement learning at home and again used props to make learning play based, silly and fun.
