Explore a Pumpkin and Its Parts, Halloween Fun! Prek Learning With Ms. Liz
Class experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten
Just in time for Halloween! In this class we'll learn fun facts about pumpkins, their parts and how they grow. We will examine our pumpkins inside and out, look at cool Halloween pumpkins, read pumpkin themed stories and engage in pumpkin themed activity sheets like mazes and connect the dots! We will practice skills to prepare us for kindergarten like listening, speaking in turn, letters/sounds, numbers and counting! Little learners can build great listening, observation and creative...
Learners will strengthen literacy, listening and sharing skills and observation and speaking skills while we listen to stories and explore our pumpkins, ask and answer questions throughout the readings and practice taking turns talking and sharing predictions and observations about the books we read. We will also work on skills like letter/sounds, numbers, shapes, visual discrimination and fine motor when we work on our pumpkin life cycle and labeling sheets and our pumpkin game pages. **In order to promote class discussions and participation I do not mute learners' microphones. This also helps learners practice their social skills such as active listening and taking turns. In order for this to work, students need to be in a quiet setting away from background noises (loud conversations, telephone calls, t.v, etc.). **
1 file available upon enrollmentGrownUp Assistance is recommended for this class! You will need: A small-medium sized pumpkin*** (the size of a softball-volleyball) with the top cut open for looking in and/or exploring with hands or a spoon during class. Something to cover the table, a towel to clean hands and a plate or bowl to look at the pumpkin fiber and count seeds. WE WILL NOT CARVE PUMPKINS IN THIS CLASS ***Your learner can participate without a pumpkin of their own and watch me and other learners on screen as we talk about pumpkin parts, etc. The first 5-10 minutes of class will be spent examining our pumpkins. Please print out the pumpkin activity pages. We will explore our pumpkins first and then wipe off our hands to work on our activity pages.
Because of the age of the class I recommend a grown up be within "ear-shot" to help with any technical hiccups (mic and video) that might come up. Minimal pumpkin prep is required before class. (The top should be cut open so we can look inside during class and use a spoon to scoop out some seeds)
