In this ongoing class, students will learn how to expand a simple sentence. This course meets twice a week. In each class, students will expand a different sentence. Students are welcome to join anytime. Students will create their own expanded sentence in this class. Each class will follow the same structure. Below is a breakdown of each class. ******SENTENCE INTRODUCTION ****** At the beginning of each class, I will provide a simple sentence. ******* INTRODUCE QUESTIONS ******* I will introduce the question words that students will be using to expand their sentence. - How? - Who? - What? - Where? - When? ****** BRAINSTORM IDEAS ****** Students will brainstorm ideas for expanding the sentence. They will use the question words as a guide. Students will brainstorm ideas that answer: - Who? - What? - How? - Where? - When? I will model how to fill a graphic organizer. Students will brainstorm ideas on their own graphic organizer. I will assist the group with ideas if needed. ******* EXPAND THE SENTENCE ******** I will model how to expand the sentences by using two of the question words. The group will expand the sentence together. Then, students will practice expanding their own sentences. If time permits, students will draw a picture to go with their sentences. ****** SHARE THE WRITING ****** Students will share their sentence with the class.
