If your learner would benefit from some practical skills and strategies for navigating time management, planning, organizing, and completing tasks, executive functioning skills coaching could prove to be a beneficial consideration. The frontal lobe of the brain is responsible for executive functions including focus and working memory, decision making, impulse control, motivation, and completing tasks. When we experience frustration, the frontal lobe isn't able to do its job efficiently. Self-regulation and control may be influenced by heredity, but is a learned behavior that must be taught, and typically increases across the lifespan as new skills and techniques are acquired. In this 45 minute session, learners will gain knowledge about how emotions and executive functioning influences decision making and will learn how to implement skills and strategies for fostering academic success. Components of the popular "Unstuck & On Target" (Cannon, et. al) curriculum will be used to provide practical application activities for improving flexibility, planning, and organization in daily life. My virtual classroom is professional and free of outside distractions. My teaching philosophy and style is heavily influenced by a cognitive constructivist approach and the overview of concepts introduced in this one-time session would be built upon to suit individual learner needs should any subsequent individual tutoring sessions be booked. I encourage active student participation and engagement through a variety of interactive learning activities. The following topics will be introduced and then followed by an informal assessment of understanding, including the usage of conversation, questionnaires, scenarios, and the meta-cognitive strategy of self-reflection: 1. Understanding Executive Functioning and Emotions 2. Self-Regulation Strategies 3. Developing a Growth Mindset 4. A Virtual “Escape Room” Activity 5. Resources for Planning, Organizing, and Staying on Task I believe every student can achieve success commensurate with understanding and ability. I look forward to meeting and unlocking that potential for student success in your learner!
