Students will enjoy this fun French class and they learn to communicate in French. This course is for beginners, with a focus on learning through stories and songs. Students will have the opportunity to explore the language through interactive hands-on learning activities. I integrate videos, songs, coloring, games and other fun activities to help children learn French. We will practice and review new vocabulary that are in the songs and story books. In the first class, children will be able to introduce themselves in French. We will use art, drawing and music throughout the class, to make learning a new language more fun. Instructions for this beginner French class will be in English and French. I use a variety of hands-on activities for learning a second language. Week #1: Introductions. We will sing the Bonjour Song and introduce our names and learn greetings. Then we will say where we live in English and French. We will listen to a story and learn three new vocabulary words. Book: Bonsoir Lune by Margaret Wise Brown. Week #2: We will sing, count to ten, and learn the days of the week in French. Next, we will review our vocabulary from the previous week. We will learn to say whether it is rainy, cloudy, snowy or sunny. Students will draw a picture of the weather.Then we will listen to a story in French. Book: Ours Brun by Eric Carle. Week #3: We will sing a song “Au clair de la lune.” I will ask children what their favorite day of the week is. Next, we will review our vocabulary from the previous week. Book: Le Chenille Qui Fait Des Trous Week #4: We will sing a song, Les Petites Poisson, and play a matching game with colors. I will ask everyone what their favorite color is. Book: Piggie and Elephant book in French: Tu as un oiseau sur la tête. Week #5: Then we will learn the 12 months of the year. We will talk about toys and ask each other what our favorite game is. Book: Piggie and Elephant book in French: Est-ce que je peux jouer? Week #6: We will learn vocabulary for clothing and the parts of a house. Students will draw a picture of their their house Book: Madeleine by Ludwig Bemelmans Week #7: Students will learn vocabulary for places in town, such as river and bridge. Book: Le Sauvetage de Madeleine. Week #8: Students will choose their favorite songs and then discuss their favorite story that they have read in French. Students will draw a picture of a character in their favorite story.
Learning Goals
