Everyday Basic and Consumer Math How many students have asked why do they have to study math? In my experience as a teacher, I would imagine the answer to be many. This course called Everyday Basic Math Success with Teacher Bob is a series of 12 sessions on a variety of math skills that we will all need to know from budgeting to searching for the best prices. This ongoing set of math lessons repeats every 12 weeks, so sign up for your first class at any point in the series. During our weekly sessions, teaching and examples will be given with the help of a whiteboard. There will be questions that Teacher Bob will help his students to complete (guided and independent practice of the skills taught). We will use real-life examples in our weekly lessons. Questions and discussions about what we are looking at are welcome. Weekly worksheets will be available to print off before class. 2023-2024 Classes/Sessions Week 1 August 30 Back to the Basics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) Week 2 September 6 Fractions Week 3 September 13 Decimals and Percents Week 4 September 20 Shopping for the best prices (discounts and unit prices) Week 5 September 27 Getting Paid (information or paycheck stubs, taxes and other deductions, gross and net pay) Week 6 October 4 Writing checks, deposit slips and keeping track of your bank account balances. Hello parents and students!
I’m Teacher Bob, and I’m excited to bring over 40 years of teaching experience to my Outschool courses. After retiring from my local school board, I now teach exclusively on Outschool, dedicating my time to creating engaging math lessons for students of all ages.
I hold a Bachelor of Education, have completed graduate studies in science and math, and am certified to teach mathematics from elementary through high school. Additionally, I have a TEFL designation, which allows me to work with students from diverse linguistic backgrounds. My passion for mathematics and science drives me to make these subjects exciting and accessible, helping students see the real-world applications and beauty in both.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and grandkids, as well as fishing and skywatching—activities that keep me grounded and spark my curiosity about the world around us.
I believe that every student can succeed with the right support, and I strive to create a positive, supportive, and fun environment where students can truly thrive.
I look forward to helping your child excel in math and develop a love of learning on Outschool!
Hope to see you soon!
Take care,
Teacher Bob
