Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Intermediate - Advanced Level
General Info:
Older and younger students are welcome as well. This class is for Middle or High School students who need to learn writing skills. Please fInd the topic and class layout in the syllabus.

I advise everyone to take my other classes before this one, unless your student has some writing experience. Essentials of Writing: Writing Structure and Essays is my 9 week class that builds the base, then the 4 week Opinion and Persuasive class allows more coverage of topics. These are not required, but recommended. This class dives straight into a larger paper and building it slowly through the weeks.

About the Teacher:
I am a certified teacher in various topics, which I teach on Outschool, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree and two Master’s degrees. I strive to align my classes with state standards and GED topics. Each week, your student will see a topic they need to master.

About this Class:
This class is geared towards late Middle School to early High School who have some writing experience. Each week we cover a new topic using a variety of learning tools and methods for all styles of learners. We will cover everything from grammar review to citations and writing detailed essays and papers, ending with a longer proper research paper. Through the first few weeks, we will have a weekly writing prompt until we reach the first essay week. I will provide feedback on all their work shared with me via Google. I edit writing classes on FRIDAYS and MONDAYS, so depending on when you submit work, you can expect edits those days.

Following class each week, I will put a message in the Outschool classroom with a link to a Google folder where I provide my notes from class, resources, and plenty of activities for you to use on the topic. I also link videos in the message for further coverage of topics. Click the “Show More” button on the message to access it. Class has a lecture base style with a mix of questions, discussion, videos, but a lot of content. Some weeks we practice the skills we learn, and others we cover more content.

Grading:
I do provide an overall grade for the class as a full semester/year class style, but I require at least 2 activities to be turned in weekly to me to grade. Some documents have answer pages, so you can go through the work before submitting, but if there is not an answer page provided, I will grade the work. Remember, work is not required, but if you desire a grade, I have to see your student’s work.

Helpful Information

1. This class is structured for 5th-8th or higher. My goal is to have students enroll and stay in the class for the full listed count of weeks so they get all the topics they need.
2. Please let your student know I often have a lot to cover. I will ask questions and they are welcome to comment, but please keep questions and comments directed to the topic we are covering, and I require them to raise their hands to speak.
3. This class bills on Sundays. Please ensure your payment method is up to date. Every Sunday, the system will withdraw students due to processing errors. When this happens, I try to send a reminder, but often students lose spots and I cannot open more. Please ensure this does not happen if you want to keep your spot. :)

Refund and Pause Policy:

1. I offer up to 2 refunds per ongoing session. Reach out to me before PAUSING class because that does not guarantee you a spot if my class fills up, which they do often. Instead of taking the risk of losing a spot, reach out to me first.
2. If a makeup class is set by me due to a change on my end, you will not receive a refund. You can access recordings and all resources.
3. If you must miss class, you must ask for a refund 24 hours before the class meeting. If you ask on the day of class or after, no refund will be given.

I have worked with students for many years on their English and grammar skills and I still see students who struggle. When students leave me, most have a solid grasp on the topic I have covered. I like making learning fun and interactive.
