Lesson 1
What is a Sentence?
Students will learn that a sentence forms a complete thought. They will recognize sentences from fragments and run ons.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Identifying Sentences
Students will continue to learn that a sentence forms a complete thought. They will recognize sentences from fragments and run ons.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Telling Sentences
Students will learn which sentences require the use of a period.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Asking Sentenes
Students will learn which sentences require the using of a question mark.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Exclamations!
Students will learn which sentences require the use of an exclamation point.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Categorizing Nouns
Students will learn review that a noun is a person, place, or thing.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Nouns- Singular or Plural
Students will practice sorting nouns into groups: singular or plural. We will learn rules for making nouns plural.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Proper Nouns
Students will distinguish nouns from proper nouns and will practice capitalizing them.

Proper Nouns Continued
Students will distinguish nouns from proper nouns and will practice capitalizing them.

Collective Nouns
Students will practice using collective nouns to describe groups of nouns.
 Week 11

Irregular Plural Nouns
Students will learn irregular plural nouns.
 Week 12

Irregular Plural Nouns Continued
Students will learn irregular plural nouns.
 Week 13
Lesson 13
Pronouns
Students will use personal pronouns.

Possessive Pronouns
Students will learn how to use possessive pronouns.

Indefinite Pronouns
Students will learn how to use indefinite pronouns.

Adjectives
Students will practice using adjectives to describe nouns.

Adjectives Continued
We will practice using adjectives to describe nouns. If we have multiple adjectives, we will use a comma to separate them.
 Week 18

Review Day
We will review all the skills learned in this semester.
  • Students will improve their understanding of parts of speech and sentence mechanics.

Details: 8 homework grades, 1 final assessment grade
A one-page homework assignment will be given weekly. An online test will be given at the end of the course.
