Get a Grip on Genre with Hollywood
Students learn to differentiate between various genres of writing: expository, narrative, & opinion.

Talk the Talk
Students learn how 5-paragraph expository essays are structured and organized.

Give it a Go!
Learners annotate a sample essay.
Lesson 4
Technology
Get the scoop on using the necessary tech in an online English class.

Two Rules of Thumb
Students learn the two rules of thumb when developing ideas for their body paragraphs.
Lesson 6
The Secret to a Coherent Essay
Students learn the key to keeping their main idea paragraphs clear and coherent.
 Week 4
Lesson 7
Writing Interesting Topic & Concluding Sentences
Students practice writing topic sentences and concluding sentences that are grammatically correct, sophisticated, and varied. We are working at the sentence level right now!
Lesson 8
'Storm, Seek, & Sort
Students learn how to generate research questions and then find answers, a process that improves their essay's ideas and interest level. Students practice these techniques then they plan their own body paragraphs independently, all while receiving helpful feedback from the instructor.

All the Spice & Everything Nice
Students learn critical elaboration techniques, the secret weapons to writing an interesting essay that stands apart from the rest.
Lesson 10
MLA Formatting & Google Docs
Students learn how to use Google Documents to write their essays. They learn to create a header, heading, and how to follow the formatting rules in the MLA style guide. They use this week to write the body paragraphs of their essays.

  • Learn to write an essay with an effective introduction, fully elaborated body paragraphs, and a powerful conclusion.
The founder of Lemons-Aid, Mrs. Lemons has a B.A. in English and an M.Ed in Education Administration. She is certified to teach English, has a principal's license, and has many years of experience at every level. She also supervises teachers in their undergraduate and graduate level teacher preparation programs at Colorado Christian University. She is a teacher of teachers. 

All teachers who teach this class have an appropriate degree, teaching experience, and training, giving your learner a teacher who is a  content-area expert who loves kids. Mrs. Lemons is very selective and only hires the very best. They are star teachers!

Frequency: 7 or more throughout the class

Details: Students have 20-30 minutes of homework after each session once we are halfway through the coarse.
Assessment
Frequency: 1 after class completion
Details: Students receive authentic and helpful feedback in class as students use the chat box to practice. They also receive feedback outside of class on the writing learners submit. Feedback is thoughtful and constructive.
