Essay Essentials: The 5-Paragraph Essay+
It's more than just a 5-paragraph essay! Students learn to independently generate, organize, and express elaborated ideas in an effective essay. Students receive explicit instruction, teacher modeling, and guidance toward mastery of skills.

There are NO live meetings for this class. The material will be posted weekly and you can view it during the week at your convenience. Each week, students will be guided through a series of lessons to complete and submit for feedback. Students will have access to video lessons, assignments, and a network of peer editors in their class. This class is comprehensive, and students: 1. build confidence in their ability to write effectively. 2. learn to write an essay with an effective introduction, fully-elaborated body paragraphs, and a powerful conclusion. 3. learn to use correct grammar when writing. 4. learn to generate ideas, organize their thoughts, and to think when writing. 5. learn to use a process that strengthens their ideas, organization, word choice, sentence fluency, voice, and conventions. 6. learn to work independently, using resources and a reliance on their mastery of new skills.
Mrs. Lemons has a B.A. in English Literature, a minor in Education, and a Master's in Education Administration. She has her teaching certificate and principal's license, and she is certified to teach English / Language Arts and History / Social Studies. She has many years of experience at the middle and high school levels. Further, she is an adjunct faculty member at Colorado Christian University, supervising teaching candidates in their undergraduate and graduate programs. She is a teacher of teachers.
Homework OfferedBy the nature of a self-paced class, all students do work asynchronously and turn it in to the teacher.

Assessments OfferedMrs. Lemons assesses all work and offers extensive feedback through their Google Doc essay and through email. For this extensive feedback, students must use Google Docs.
