In this class, learners will receive training in order to neutralize their accents, and speak in the more 'neutral' accent that you hear in many American television shows, films, etc. During the session, we will go over several facets of accent like rhythm, intonation, mouth shape, stress, and pronunciation. The class will start by having everyone introducing themselves, and a small warm up to help learners get familiarized with some features of the General American accent. From there, we will take a news article based on a real current event, and learners will each take turns reading a portion of it out loud. After students read their section, they will have the opportunity to receive feedback and tips on the accent facets (as listed above). Subsequently, they will be given the opportunity to read the same article portion once again. My aim is to create a class environment that's both educational, but also safe. Though students may encounter challenges while learning to speak in the General American accent, I want students to know that it's okay to make mistakes. This class is designed to be a fun, low-pressure setting. Students enrolling in the class should be at minimum at an A2 level of speaking. This class is ideal for learners who already have a solid foundation in their spoken English, but want to pronounce things in more of a neutral North-American way.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I've trained myself in the General American accent for professional purposes. In my time as an on-camera actor in the entertainment industry, I had speaking roles in widely-viewed American television and film productions. I learned to
pronounce things in a more standard American way in order to satisfy the producers/production team of these
projects.
