Art and science make a great combination. Students will learn about the arctic tundra environment and three of the animals living in this biome. Students will be able to describe the size, eating habits, and behaviors of the polar bear, snowy owl, and arctic fox. They will also learn to create one origami (snowy owl), one neurographic "scribble" art (arctic fox), and one Picasso-esque face art (polar bear). Students will build vocabulary specific to the arctic tundra biome. They will be able to locate this region on a map. Students will read aloud and participate in question and answer sessions about the biome and the three animals selected for this class, the snowy owl, the arctic fox, and the polar bear. This class will include direct instruction, read-aloud, question and answer, casual but focused discussion, and art sharing. Students will interact with each other and with me during each section of the course. The primary goal is to learn about this habitat and its animal inhabitants. Our secondary goal is socialization and friendly interaction about the science and the art. Class One: Snowy Owl and origami Class Two: Polar Bear and Picasso-esque abstract face art Class Three: Arctic Fox and "scribble" or neurographic art
