Class experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Let the Space Adventure begin!
Areas of focus: Parts of a Black Hole, how black holes work, types of Black Holes, & Ways/Techniques used to find Black Holes
Other areas of focus include working well with others in a fun-based, online environment, and building a sense of partnership and collaboration with their fellow astronauts as they problem solve to find the codes that retrieve each new key, opening a new escape room (black hole sector).
I have always had a love of space, from the moment my grandpa, an amateur astronomer, let me look through the 10-foot telescope he built all by himself, to watching shuttles & satellites lift into the sky, and watching some fall back to the earth. I have spotted some of the largest dust storms to hit Mars, and have enjoyed looking at the various craters on our Moon and seeing the rings around Saturn, all from my own backyard in Missouri & while using other telescopes my grandpa built. I have never ceased my exploration and search, looking to the skies to watch for eclipses, comets, and so much more! My love of all things Space has only increased with time, and I feel it is the next great wave of the future!
As a teacher with three different degrees, including a Master’s Degree in Teaching, I have taken several science courses, including those dealing with Astronomy. I also have over 30 years of experience working with children of various ages, teaching a variety of topics, including Astronomy, Arts & Crafts, Music, Business, Computers and more! I love to share my knowledge with the next generation as I hope to instill the awe-inspiring beauty the Unknown Universe holds, as well as encourage students to dream and believe! I hope to see you in class as we take on this Online Escape Room Challenge-Escape the Black Hole!

Homework Offered
Assessments Offered
The goal of this class is for students to be able to work together in a fun, interactive Escape Room style class, to discover the codes to retrieve the “keys”, which then open up/unlock new sectors of the Black Hole, and lead their ship and crew to pull free from the gravity of the Black Hole which is pulling them deeper into the black hole! As such, they will complete tasks, puzzles, decodes, and other fun team-building exercises to find the missing code words to unlock each new key/region of the Black Hole!
Grades Offered
Learners will be given a “Top Secret” document in the Outschool Classroom an hour prior to our class time which can either be printed or placed on another screen. This will include the interactive tasks, puzzles, codeword activities and such. These will need to be accessible at the beginning of class.
All additional learning materials needed will be available for download in the Outschool classroom.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher will have a document with the puzzles, activities and other code-breaking fun available in the Outschool Classroom one hour before the beginning of our class. Please do not allow learners to look at this “Top Secret” document until Teacher Kristina instructs them to do so!
Learners will need to help to either print it off, or put it on the screen, along with our Zoom class. If printing is not available, having a separate screen helps so that the learners can both see their astronaut crew (classmates), as they work together to solve each activity to learn the new code words. Also, something to write with, pen/pencil is recommended as learners will be decoding, completing puzzles, and other activities during each escape room.
Parents: A link will also be provided within the Outschool Classroom to the Google Form where learners will insert their code words to, which will retrieve the keys, and a video opening up the next sector of the Black Hole. Learners may need help accessing the Google document & putting in the code where they will insert their codes to receive the next key. Teacher Kristina will also be available with the Google Form, if learners have difficulty accessing it & to help with any other issues, problems, or questions during this Escape Room Challenge!
Our Escape Room utilizes Google documents created by Teacher Kristina. Learners will receive the link in the Outschool Classroom once our online escape room begins and will simply click on the link to begin entering the codes to unlock the keys as we race through each new sector of the Black Hole!
