Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 10
This 3 day class discusses linear topics such as the definition of what linear is, solving linear equations, plotting points, calculating slope, plotting lines, and calculating the equation of a line. Students will listen to some basic information given by me and practice a few problems from each subtopic as we go through the material. On Day 1, I will give the definition of linear and remind students how to solve multistep equations algebraically then graphically. On Day 2, the lesson is to plot points, calculate the slope of the line connecting them, and then graph lines in either slope intercept form of standard form. On day 3, the students will calculate the equation of the line in slope intercept form then standard form. Activities from Desmos.com will be utilized.
Learning Goals
Students will identify an equation as linear or not. Students will solve linear equations algebraically and graphically.
Students will plot points and calculate the slope of the line between them. Students will graph lines from equations. Students will write the equations of lines.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Education and Mathematics, a master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics, and an Educational Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics Education. I have taught high school math classes in General Math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Probability & Statistics, Trig, and Calculus. I have taught college math classes of General Mathematics, Beginning Algebra, College Algebra, and Probability & Statistics. I love for my students to feel a need to learn math and to enjoy learning math. I live in southern WV with my husband Jimmy and my children Caden (21) and Colleen (18). We are big sports fans and love to watch local athletics.
