In two classes, students will memorize the poem "The Land of Nod."
Class experience
US Grade 5 - 8
Students will memorize the enchanting poem "The Land of Nod" by Robert Louis Stevenson. Students will memorize the title and first two stanzas in week one. In week two they will memorize the last two stanzas. I will teach students tips and tricks on how I memorize so they can utilize those skills later when memorizing other pieces of literature. Students will memorize "The Land of Nod." Students will recite the poem aloud. Students will gain confidence in public speaking using a piece of memorized literature. Through memorization students will enhance their personal vocabulary. Memorization of poetry encourages students to be more analytical and inquisitive. Students who are still learning English are provided with a way to articulate the English language in way that is more formal and lyrical. Students will celebrate small victories when they memorize and recite a longer piece of literature.
Homework Offered
Students will need to review the first half of the poem before the second class. This can be done daily for a few minutes each day.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
