Class Experience

Welcome all budding guitarists! Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Charlie and I am a seasoned Electric Guitar instructor of over 10 years.

I offer one to one private guitar lessons for all ages and skill abilities. One highlight of my job is meeting kids and young adults of all musically influenced backgrounds and find a common ground to establish a rapport; our love for playing and learning an instrument!

Having taught in multiple institutes, from primary to schools to private institutes, one skill I have developed and enhanced is the ability to adapt and tailor private tuition to an individual. As music is such a wide and vast muse, I believe it is important to hone in on an individuals musical taste and enhance the reason they love the instrument, via tuition.

In our private lessons, I will break down how to play, perform and even compose guitar tracks, as well as follow traditional exam material, (if wanting to work on and achieve grades.). This is backed up with astute theory tuition and technique practice in the form of short burst interactive exercises. Many students find the area of theory and technique to be less than exciting so I make sure to make this very important part of guitar development fun and interactive!

A real highlight and privilege of my job is seeing students develop over the years and become adept enough to have their own careers in music; whether it be performing in bands, become session musicians, or release their own songs worldwide, it’s always important to aim for the stars and one day it could be you being a well known musician or tutor!

*WHAT HAPPENS IN MY FIRST GUITAR LESSON?*

A first lesson is a great opportunity to meet and discuss your musical interests, favourite songs, aspirations and goals! For many aspiring guitarists, the thought of learning to play can be daunting; therefore as a tutor I provide an engaging and supportive learning environment that helps students build confidence and improve their playing ability.

                                  *WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?*

Really, the bare minimal! A great feature of learning online is you can progress in the comfort of your own home! A decent internet connection and access to Zoom, and we’re good to go. Preferably your guitar will be in tune but if not, I will be able to guide you how to do so in the lesson. Be sure to set your background noise suppression on Zoom to low so I can hear your piano as clearly as possible!

                                            *TESTIMONIALS*
“My 14 year old son has been having guitar lessons with Charlie for around 7 years. Charlie has managed to keep him engaged and interested with his relaxed and encouraging approach to teaching.
He has recently passed grade 4 and is currently working towards grade 5.
My son enjoys playing his guitar with Charlie and looks forward to his weekly on line lesson. The on line lessons suit us well as he has a busy schedule and we would struggle to take him to regular face to face lessons.
I would recommend Charlie as a teacher to anyone of any age or ability.”
— Vrunda, parent of current student

“I first started learning guitar during lockdown and I can safely say that lessons kept my sanity through those times. I have now progressed with Charlie’s help, writing and singing my own compositions.
Charlie has helped me with my confidence in performing and learning as a whole. As a teacher,Charlie has a thorough knowledge of academic and practical application to all teaching methods. His approach allows the pupil to progress at a natural pace.
He also has no barrier to age or skill level. In Charlie’s class, everyone is capable of learning.”
— Michelle, current adult student

“Charlie taught my son to play the guitar.
He got his first acoustic guitar aged 13 and was engaged from the very first lesson.
He had so much fun in his weekly lessons & Charlie’s music choices were perfect to keep him interested, enjoyable and to challenge him.
He now plays guitar & bass for various artist & bands.
We’d 100% recommend Charlie as a music teacher for any age.”
— Kirsty, parent of former student

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi I’m Charlie! I teach piano, guitar, bass and ukulele and have counted to over 10,000 hours of music lessons throughout my career.

After obtaining my music degree (BMus Hons) in 2014, I began teaching music in multiple schools and private institutions, gradually building up to a personal network of private students. Having been in so many different musical interactions has kept me agile as a teacher and be aware of the versatility required to master the art of tuition.

I began doing one-to-one lessons online at the start of lockdown in 2020, realising it was the only way to progress as a teacher and for also students to progress. During this time I discovered the advantage of learning an instrument in the comfort of your own home, whilst having the same quality as a face to face lesson, which led to rapid developments of my students!

For many aspiring musicians, the thought of learning to play can be daunting; therefore as a tutor I provide an engaging and supportive learning environment that helps students build confidence and improve their playing ability.

When I am not teaching, I perform in multiple bands and compose and release solo music. One of my favourite aspects of music is the aspect of composition; taking your own musical influences and toying around with them to create something unique is a thrilling experience!
