Class Experience

When students learn words without context, it becomes nothing more than memorization. This makes it hard to recall words to use while speaking, and is one of the main reasons why nonnative speakers are shy about speaking.
With this in mind we will look at song lyrics to help learn grammatical structures, prepositional verbs, and their differences. We will also look at subjunctives, prescriptive and descriptive English, pitch, pace, emphasis, etc. Learning along the way how to take definition notes to aid memory. In this class we will use the lyrics of a different song each week. We will also point out English mistakes which are used and are acceptable as poetic license.
Students will listen to the music outside of class and can get started on compiling a playlist to help with their English language learning skills. Each week they will share what is their favorite line from the song and identify the sound of language such as alliteration, assonance and anomatopoeia.

The session I had was very educational and informative. I got to watch instructional video clips and and the quiz was set up like a game, all while learning how to sew. Even though the session was short, I really enjoyed it and would like to continue.
