The Cambridge PET exam refers to the Cambridge Preliminary English Test for students of English as a Second Language (ESL). This Cambridge English Qualification is now called the B1 Preliminary.

The test is aimed at students who have mastered the basics of English and have acquired intermediate English. Students are assessed on a pass or fail basis. Students who pass the PET exam receive a lifelong certification.

In total, the Cambridge PET exam lasts for about 140 minutes (2 hours and 20 minutes) and consists of four sections. Each section is assessed separately:

Reading
Writing
Listening
Speaking

The CEFR provides a descriptor for each level of language ability. At B1 Preliminary in English, learners will be able to improve their fluency and do things like watch and understand television in English. They’ll also be able to agree and disagree by discussing alternative plans with their friends and family. Students should be able to express their preferences about different topics.

At B1 Preliminary, language learners are expected to:

Understand the main points on everyday matters and situations at school, work, home and leisure.
Deal with likely situations when travelling in an area where the language spoken is a first language to the people who live there.
Write about topics which are familiar to them or of personal interest.
Describe experience such as events, dreams, hopes and ambitions, giving reasons and explanations for their opinions and plans.

Learning Goals

Demonstrate accurate usage of English phonetic sounds.
Expand English vocabulary proficiently.

About Me

Hello! I’m an experienced and passionate English teacher with a proven track record of teaching in UK schools, Asian classrooms, and ESL programs worldwide. Coming from a mixed-race, multicultural background, I deeply understand the importance of embracing diversity and creating inclusive learning environments. This perspective shapes my teaching style, making my lessons both culturally rich and accessible to students from all walks of life.

Beyond teaching, I am also a writer of poetry and short stories, with self-published works that reflect my love for storytelling and language. Additionally, I’m an amateur space hobbyist, constantly exploring the wonders of the cosmos. I share my passion for education, literature, and space through YouTube and social media, where I engage with a broader audience.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe every student is unique, and my teaching style reflects this. I create student-centered lessons where learners feel empowered to explore, ask questions, and engage actively. Whether teaching in a UK classroom or guiding ESL students in Asia, I adapt my approach to ensure inclusivity and success for all.

My Teaching Style

Interactive and Engaging Lessons
I use games, storytelling, and technology to make learning fun and memorable. From interactive apps like Kahoot and Quizlet to hands-on activities, I ensure my students enjoy their learning journey while achieving measurable progress.

Focus on Communication

For me, language is about connection. Whether preparing students for Cambridge exams (Starters, Movers, Flyers, PET, KET) or day-to-day conversations, I balance grammar instruction with practical communication skills.

Culturally Responsive Teaching

Growing up in a multicultural environment, I bring cultural relevance into the classroom, celebrating diversity and helping students see language as a tool for exploring the world.

Blended Learning

I combine traditional teaching methods with modern tools to create dynamic lessons. Whether through phonics for young learners or advanced grammar for older students, I ensure every lesson is engaging and impactful.

Differentiation for All Abilities

I tailor lessons to suit mixed-ability classes, providing scaffolding for struggling learners and challenging tasks for advanced students.

Experience and Expertise

In UK Schools

I have extensive experience teaching KS1 to KS4 learners, focusing on literacy, creative writing, and comprehension. I also support EAL (English as an Additional Language) students, helping them integrate and succeed academically.

In Asian Classrooms

My time teaching in Asia has taught me how to bridge the gap between rote learning and critical thinking. I encourage students to express themselves creatively while respecting their learning culture.

As an ESL Teacher

Teaching English as a Second Language is my passion. I specialize in preparing students for Cambridge English exams and designing lessons that make learning practical, fun, and confidence-boosting.

What Makes My Classroom Special

A welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where students feel safe to take risks and learn from mistakes.

Regular feedback and encouragement to build confidence and track progress.
Lessons packed with visual aids, games, storytelling, and relatable examples to make language come alive.

Why I Love Teaching

Helping students discover the power of language is incredibly rewarding. My multicultural background inspires me to connect with students from different cultures and help them find their voice. Whether it’s a shy beginner gaining confidence in speaking or an advanced student mastering a complex concept, I take pride in being part of their journey. I love sparking curiosity, encouraging critical thinking, and creating lessons that inspire students to learn and grow.
