Reading Masters: Speaking, Phonics, and Reading Skills for Intermediate ESL

Learners will be introduced to themed vocabulary. Learners will practice pronunciation and will be able to identify the word, its meaning, and use it in context. While learning vocabulary, students will also be practicing their listening and comprehension skills.

The themes for the classes are as follows:

Week 1 Hello!  - Learners will learn about introducing themselves and sharing who they are when meeting someone and making friends. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. 

Week 2 Numbers  - Learners will learn the numbers 1-20. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. 

Week 3 Colors - Learners will learn colors and talk about their favorite colors. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 4 School Supplies - Learners will learn words of common school supplies that we use everyday. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 5 Things We Do   - Learners will learn words of common activities that we do on a daily basis.  Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 6 Our Body - Learners will learn words of body parts. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 7 All About Me  - Learners will learn words that describe a person. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 8 Our Pets - Learners will learn words related to pets. Students can bring a picture of their pet if they have one. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 9 My Favorite Food - Learners will learn the words of foods. Students can share what their favorite food is. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 10 My Favorite Toy - Learners will learn words for toys. Students can bring their favorite toy to show in class and talk about it. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 11 My Family - Learners will learn the words of immediate family members. Students can bring a picture of their family to show in class.  Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 12 My Extended Family - Learners will learn the words of extended family members. Students can bring a picture of their family to show in class.  Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week of 13 Days of the Week (Week of Jan. 10 to Jan. 16) - Learners will learn the days of the week. They will be able to answer questions about what they do during the week. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 14 Months of the Year (Week of Jan. 17 to Jan. 23) - Learners will learn the month of the year. They will be able to talk about special holidays they celebrate throughout the year. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 15 Seasons (Week of Jan. 24 to Jan. 30)- Learners will learn words of seasons of the year and identify the characteristics of each season.  Learners will talk about their favorite time of the year. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 16 Weather (Week of Jan. 31 to Feb. 6) - Learners will be able to describe the weather words and ask and answer questions about the weather conditions.  Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 17  Let's go to my house! (Week of Feb. 7 to Feb. 13) - Learners will learn words related to a household. Learners will role-play and have conversations about the vocabulary being learned. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 18 Let's go to school! (Week of Feb. 14 to Feb. 20) - Learners will learn words about school and answer questions related to school. They will talk about their favorite class in school.  Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 19 Let's go to the supermarket! (Week of Feb. 21 to Jan. 27) - Learners will learn words about the supermarket and answer questions about what they see at the supermarket. They will talk about their favorite foods/snacks.  Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Week 20 Let's go to the farm! (Week of Feb. 28 to March 6) - Learners will learn words about things or animals in a farm. They will talk about their experience with farm animals. Conversation will be encouraged to elicit learners to practice their English in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Let's have fun while learning new words, pronouncing them correctly, and using them in conversation in a small group setting! I can't wait to see learners in my classroom and see their growth in English fluency.
