Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
In this class, students will learn 3rd, 4th & 5th grade English Language Arts curriculum. Each week learners will learn homophones, grammar usage, affixes, and reading comprehension. Each of these topics has been chosen to help your child reach their learning objectives as well as to give them the knowledge and confidence they need to succeed. Learning these skills will ensure that learners have strong literacy, reading, and writing skills.

For further practice, learners will play educational review games on Nearpod. Nearpod is a student-paced virtual interactive lesson to practice and assist in deeper comprehension. Each lesson will contain videos, quizzes, games, polls, and more.

Learners will play a fun Kahoot show-style game each week for practice and deeper comprehension. This game includes fourth and fifth-grade language arts questions and will cover homophones, grammar usage, affixes, and reading comprehension. Kahoot is interactive software that allows students to answer questions on their devices. Students will compete against others to answer questions correctly. Students will receive praise for correct answers, and the top three winners will be recognized at the end of the game. This class is best suited for children attending fourth or fifth grade in the spring of 2022.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome to my class. My name is Teacher Wendy. I have worked in education for over ten years including substitute teaching and as an intervention specialist. I have been teaching online for over six years; I am certified in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have an A.A. in History at Austin Community College and a B.A. in History, with a minor in English at Texas State University. I am a homeschool mom to three kids, two are differently-abled. I have struggled with dyslexia my whole life and I know personally how hard it can be to learn simple things that others take for granted. It is my personal mission to help people like me that are differently-abled learners.

I am most passionate about teaching tween students, however, I love teaching anyone with a heart to learn. When I am teaching tweens I find it’s best to be authentically interested and curious about their ideas, feelings, and experiences. Actively and purposefully listening to what they share gives me a better idea of how to support them. I prefer teaching skills through a multisensory approach and I live for those moments when a student's "light bulb goes off". Learning doesn't have to be boring, and by incorporating a little fun and lots of silliness, learning can be fantastic! I really enjoy educating tweens and entertaining, I call it edge-uh-tain. I like to incorporate positive encouragement and praise to assist my students and help with class management. Won't you join me on this wonderful and whimsical ride? I hope to see you in my classroom!
