Grammar, that subject that many middle school learners LOVE to hate!!! Right? Grammar 101 is a refresher of the grammar that students have learned but find challenging to recall and use. During our 6 week class students will get a refresher on parts of speech, parts of the sentence, phrases and clauses, and key uses of punctuation like commas, semicolons and periods. Each class will begin with a 5 minute grammar activity while students log in and attendance is taken. Then comes the mini lesson of the day, followed by an interactive activity to reinforce the lesson.....hopefully with some fun! Slides, videos, lecture, handouts, and interactive games and activities are all used so that the learning styles of each learner are addressed. Students are expected to have at least a fundamental understanding of grammar, sentence structure and punctuation in order to be successful in this camp. Each assignment throughout the class will build upon one another. Structure of individual classes may change based upon the needs of the learners. The first class of the week will introduce the topic(s), and the second class will provide practice, activities and games for reinforcement. **********PLEASE READ************* Outschool has recently changed its policy regarding class cancellations. We know how disappointing canceled classes can be for learners, so we too are amending our policy. In the past we have waited for late enrollees, of which we have had MANY! Unfortunately we can no longer do that. If enrollment falls below 3 learners 48 hours before this class is scheduled to begin, it will be rescheduled for a later date. Full refunds will be provided for learners who cannot attend the newly scheduled class time. All other refunds will be provided as per the Outschool Limited Refund policy (see below). If for any reason the class does not meet your expectation, you have the confidence of knowing that Outschool has a Happiness Guarantee and will provide a refund upon request via their Customer Support. Transfer requests within 24 hours of a scheduled class will NOT be approved. At that point it is too late to reschedule the class, and it is unfair to other families who may have enrolled thinking there were multiple learners enrolled. Instead students will be encouraged to watch the video of the class. Thank you for understanding, and for your loyalty. ******Students are expected to have their cameras on, and to participate verbally.****** Week 1: Back to Basics - Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs Week 2: Basics with a little "Extra" - Adjectives and Adverbs, and Prepositions Week 3: Putting it all Together - Conjunctions, Interjections and Review from the week Week 4: String a Sentence - Simple Sentences and Independent Clauses Week 5: Santa Claus?- Dependent Clauses, Compound and Complex Sentences Week 6: Put the PUNCH in Punctuation!! - How to make sure we don't "eat grandpa".
