Engineering Camp for Kids: Constructing, Coding and Energy Summer Camp
Class Experience
Beginner Level
In this camp, students will learn about electricity and electronics by constructing various circuits using a Breadboard, LEDs, buzzer, motor, resistors, variable resistor, diode, photocell, switches, wires, battery, and battery holder. They will also study alternative energy and focus on solar energy while building a solar/electric car. Additionally, they will learn basic coding and robotics using the Blocky language to code a virtual robot. **Please note that the schedule of daily...
4 lessons//1 Week
Week 1Lesson 1Day One- Introduction of students (Name, Grade, and State or Country) for 10 minutes - Overview of what will be covered each day for 5 minutes - Brief review of previous lessons using an online document (PDF or PowerPoint) for 5 minutes - Hands-on learning by constructing various circuits using wires, light, battery, and switch for 35 minutes. The teacher will explain concepts as students build each circuit.Lesson 2Day Two- Overview of what will be covered each day for 5 minutes - Hands-on building of a circuit for 5 minutes - Brief review of the lesson using an online document (PDF or PowerPoint) for 5 minutes - Hands-on learning by constructing a solar/electric car for 40 minutes. The teacher will explain concepts as students build each circuit.Lesson 3Day Three- Hands-on building of a circuit for 5 minutes - Working on the solar/electric car for 10 minutes - Learning basic coding using blocks for 20 minutes. Students will use Blockly code on an online site to manipulate an online VEX robot. - Using Blockly coding to build a square, a square using a Pen sensor, and a square using a loop for 20 minutes. Students will be given homework to complete.Lesson 4Day Four- Hands-on building of the last circuit for 5 minutes - Completing the solar/electric car if needed for 10 minutes - Reviewing coding homework for 10 minutes - Learning how to use loops and sensors for 10 minutes - Using Blockly coding to build a square, a square using a Pen sensor, and a square using a loop and sensors for 20 minutes.
- During this class, students will learn about electricity and circuits. They will understand how gears, motors, and generators work. Students will also learn about the basic concepts of alternative energy, including solar energy, and will be introduced to several electronic components. Furthermore, they will learn the basic blocks of Blockly programming and develop code to move an online robot. Finally, they will learn about loops and sensors for various playgrounds.
I hold a degree in Electrical Engineering and have been programming in various languages for over 20 years. In addition to my technical expertise, I have also been teaching VEX Robotics for over 7 years and have several years of experience in teaching Blockly coding.
