Engaging Book Club for Kids Who Devour Books!
Class experience
Join us for a fun and challenging book club where we meet every other week to discuss a new book. Every time we meet, I will lead a round-table discussion for each book we read. Every week we will discuss topics ranging from the author's intent to character and plot development. Then we will all share our opinions as we analyze the works. By facilitating the discussion, I will model to the students how to clearly express their thoughts and debate and discuss topics with their peers. Every...
Students will become more engaged and critical readers and feel confident in sharing their thoughts.

These books are all younger middle grade and age-appropriate. The Million Dollar Race has a social media subplot and environmental and labor issues. Stowaway, Edge of Extinction, and The City of Ember are science fiction novels with plenty of action and characters in peril at times and deal with parental loss. Temple Alley Summer deals with supernatural elements, death and illness (including of children), and extreme conditions. Inside Out and Back Again deals with issues of immigration, war, bullying, and parental loss. Scritch Scratch is a horror story, dealing with ghosts, fires, and historical tragedies. Here in the Real World deals with bullying, alcoholism, and coming-of-age themes. The Castle of Tangled Magic deals with fantasy elements and characters in peril. Masterminds is dystopian work and deals with main characters who are clones made from the DNA of criminals. If students want to discuss any big issues in the book club, I will listen to what they are feeling and respond in an appropriate way but will also redirect to the questions I have planned for the students. As every family is different, please review all books before signing up your student. Amazon, GoodReads, Common Sense Media, and Kirkus have reviews that are helpful to parents.
