Emotions Craft: Many Faces of Me

Class

Average rating:5.0Number of reviews:(66)
In this class, we will make a craft that will help learners with emotional regulation and development. We will use paper cutting, drawing, interactive questions, reflection, and optional show-and-tell time.

Class experience

One important part of emotional regulation is knowing that emotions are not permanent. Often, when we feel an overwhelming emotion, we think that we ARE that emotion, and we forget that we are more than just that one feeling. Learners will gain perspective by seeing in a tangible way that their emotions are multi-faceted, and that they are more than just sadness, or just anger. By changing the papers in their portfolio, they will see that their emotions are also constantly shifting.

Learners will be encouraged to make mindful connections between the emotion's name, how it feels on our faces, and what unique experiences or likes/dislikes we associate with those feelings.

Learners will walk away with a tool for communicating their emotions with caregivers.
My education and training in psychology gave me a unique understanding of emotional development. Yet, I struggled to find proactive emotional education tools that would support my own homeschool teaching. I began developing my own hands-on resources to help my own young children develop their emotional intelligence alongside traditional academic intelligence. I broadened my reach when I began teaching hundreds of other students online. I hope you enjoy these tools as much as we have!
- folder: file folder or similar folder that can be cut
- sharp point scissors
- 5 sheets of paper, colored or white
- drawing tools: pencil, crayons, markers, etc.
- optional: small mirror
Please note that younger children may need assistance with cutting the folder at the beginning of the craft.
