Beginner Level
This is an engaging class that will help learners to write basic words and order sentences as an introduction to writing. The teacher will begin by showing the class a flashcard or interesting object and ask for a simple word. Each learner will write the word (the teacher will use the whiteboard for reinforcement). As time allows, they can draw a picture. The teacher will check with each student as they are writing and offer encouragement and guidance. The learners will be able to hold up their work to show the teacher and other learners how they are doing. Following writing the word, the teacher will show a slide that will have the picture and a simple sentence out of order. The learners will assist the teacher to drag and drop the sentence into the correct order. The process will be repeated as time allows. Some groups will work faster or slower than others, but learners can expect to try to write a minimum of three words per class. The teacher will use grammatical vocabulary to help students gain exposure to basic parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.), punctuation, and sentence structure. The teacher will use a premade slide show in most cases. There will never be outside websites, links, or accounts needed by the learners. Since topics will be determined randomly by flashcards, objects, and pictures the learners or the teacher bring to class, there are no weekly themes. Each session will begin over with new flashcards, objects, and/or pictures and be independent of the sessions before or after. As an ongoing class, each class will focus on different words and sentences to be a completely new learning experience. Learners will not need to attend prior classes to participate and can enroll and withdraw as needed.
