Class Experience

The student should arrive to our session with one math topic to work on in depth. Any elementary math topic can be worked on during this time. The session will begin with Lyndsay asking the student to explain the problem/topic they are working on. Lyndsay will then ask the student to tell her what they already know about the topic then they will dive into problem solving skills. Lyndsay will show the student numerous techniques for solving the problem or working on the topic and then hone in on what works best for the student.

Due to time restraints, working on more than one topic in one session is possible depending on the needs of the student but each session should begin by focusing on one topic to ensure it is properly covered. Natural progression into other math topics happen in these sessions regularly but each class moves ONLY at the pace best for the student.

Students may repeat the class as many times as they as they wish. This is a great option for students seeking quicker advancement in math or students just needing a little extra guidance.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Lyndsay Capshaw has a B.A. in Human Development as well as a current Colorado Elementary Teaching License. She has over 20 years of professional experience working with children. Lyndsay is an excellent math teacher because at one point, she was a struggling mathematician. Lyndsay found out in college that she was dyslexic and had been reading math problems backwards. She had to work incredibly hard as adult to "re-learn" math, and she had a teacher in college who really helped her get the resources she needed. This created a passion within Lyndsay to help students realize they are good at math, they just might not have the tools they need yet. It also formed a love of math within her that students find inspirational and motivating.
