US Grade 2 - 3
In this fun and interactive ongoing class, students will practice double digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping skills by playing a game with their peers (ex. 34+76= or 87-39=). Each class we will play a different game that allows students to interact, collaborate, have conversation and most importantly, have a blast practicing and improving their double digit addition and subtraction skills with each other! We will play all of the games together as a group, as teams or students vs teacher. Some games will be on the computer using sites like Nearpod. Games are a fun way to practice and build fluency! Practicing math facts will help with memorization and recalling facts faster. And what better way than to practice math than with games! Students should be familiar with how to borrow and regroup when adding and subtracting double digits. They do not need to be an expert though. This class is meant to practice the steps needed to solve the problem. Students will also solve word problems in a few classes. All classes will have a mix of 2 digit problems to solve with and without regrouping/borrowing. *Games are subject to change based on how many students are enrolled. Some games are better with more/fewer students. Week of Sept 5-9-- Memory-- adding and subtracting with and without regrouping Sept 12-16--Game board--adding and subtracting with and without regrouping Sept 19-23--5 in a row-- focus on adding 2 digit numbers Sept 26-30-- Nearpod--adding and subtracting with and without regrouping Oct 3-7-- Tic tac toe--focus on subtracting 2 digit numbers Oct 10-14-- Roll a Row--focus on adding 2 digit numbers Oct 17-21-- Uncover it-- focus on subtracting Oct 24-28-- Bump--focus on adding 2 digit numbers-- adding and subtracting with and without regrouping

Parental Guidance
Students will be using Nearpod for some classes. Nearpod is a site I used to create an interactive lesson where students will use a join code to participate. I will share the code before and during the class. You do not need to create an account to participate. Students can join on a separate device (iPad, tablet or even a phone) by using the free Nearpod app. Or students may join the lesson on the computer as well. I use Nearpod to infuse games into my lesson and students are able to individually click, or draw on their own screen to participate.

Hello! My name is Natalie! I am a former Special Education Resource Teacher of 4 years. I have taught grades K-6 reading, writing and math small groups. I taught students with learning disabilities for 30 to 45 minutes a day, then they would go back to their homeroom class.
I love teaching students new strategies to solve problems. Everyone learns differently and everyone can absolutely learn and succeed. I love seeing my students finally understand math watch their confidence grow and have a blast learning! I love helping students learn to use the different tools in their tool box to solve a math problem. There are multiple ways a problem can be solved. I love teaching different strategies because one will work for students over the other.
Math can be viewed as hard, boring and daunting. It is my goal to make math fun, have students feel successful and tackle a math problem with confidence!
