(For Older Students) Discover who lived along the Nile over 300,000 to 1 million years before the pharaohs in a very different place than the ancient Egypt we've learned about all this time.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Follows Teacher-Created Curriculum
  • 1. How bone fossils, tools, climate change, and most recently, the human genome guide our research of pre-human populations. 2. Why archaeologists and Egyptologists have trouble settling on definite dates for major changes in people and the environment. 3. The recognition that Egypt and the rest of the world had several types of humans existing at the same time. 4. The consideration that gender identity issues most likely applied to pre-Homo sapiens. 5. The notion that we should respect our non-Homo sapien ancestors because they were people in their own right. They invented survival skills most of us wouldn't even attempt, and that their struggles led to the people we are today.
I hold a Diploma in Egyptology from Oxford College in England and a Certificate of Museum Studies from Harvard University. And I’ve been to Egypt three times on personalized, educational tours. I am also a substitute teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I've been captivated by ancient Egypt since I was ten years old. And I feel it's my destiny to share my enthusiasm for and expertise on this beautiful and brilliant 5000-year-old civilization with all of you. I look forward to seeing you soon in this class. I think you'll agree that The Egyptian Room is an attractive, fun and inspiring place to learn. And, please, if you like, call me Ms. Sennuwy - my chosen ancient Egyptian name.

Homework
Frequency: included
Feedback: included
Details: I will encourage students to read the handouts I give them before class.
Assessment
Frequency: included
Details: There will be an informal, fun quiz at the beginning of the class (which students can download before) to see how much they know about the inhabitants of predynastic Egypt, and I will go over the same quiz with the students to see what they've learned after the class.
 1 file available upon enrollment
I will supply students with a chart of the humans who lived in Egypt long before the pharaohs.
Some of the photos of pre-humans show nudity. And some of the photo images (the faces of pre-humans) may appear very strange to students.
I have used several well-known ancient Egyptian and archaeological research websites for the material in this presentation.
