Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 9
Educational success is a multi-step process. It begins with focus and understanding of the material being taught, taking quality notes for future review, efficient study habits, and finally effective assessment skills.

This note taking class will be conducted in two 45-minute lessons. In each lesson, students will participate in class discussion and practice exercises to develop effective note taking skills.

We will begin the first session with students evaluating what has and has not worked well for them in the past before moving on to discuss:
                    * How to know what information is note-worthy
                    * Different types of note formats
                    * Tips for taking notes quickly
During the second session, we will:
                    * Continue to discuss tips for taking notes quickly
                    * Methods for prioritizing notes for future review
                    * Structure and tips for digital notetaking

Students are encouraged to ask questions and express their own ideas. There will be no homework or assessment for this class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to determine types of information that should be included in their notes, how to use symbols and abbreviations to take notes quickly and use formatting and highlighting to organize their notes effectively for future reference.

Hello!
I am so delighted to meet you! 😀 I am Ms. Lori and I have been teaching inside and outside of the classroom for many years.

Having been a sociology and English teacher since 1994, I am thrilled to be offering classes in sociology, grammar, all forms of writing, reading, and literature, including the life and works of William Shakespeare. It is my goal to help students build their confidence, better see their potential, improve their school performance, and develop life skills as well as a joy for learning. 💪🏻

Because, in one way or another, we are all students for life; other classes that I offer focus on student and work skills. These classes will provide tips and techniques to effectively listen, take notes, study, and take tests, as well as use Google and Microsoft Office programs like Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.

Through the years, I have taught students from elementary school to adult learners at a variety of skill levels. I cherish my time teaching. I love the look on a person's face when they master a concept or skill. I am cheerful, attentive, and energetic, and have a passion for helping students build their own excitement for learning.🤩

To prepare for this amazing career, I earned a bachelor's degree in education from Central Michigan University in 1994. I continued my own educational journey by completing a master's in educational leadership from Saginaw Valley State University and acquiring several certifications in technology. Throughout the first 22 years of my career, I gained valuable experience teaching in a public high school. For the past six years I have broadened this experience by teaching both American and Chinese students using various online platforms.

When I am not teaching, I love reading, writing, nature, animals, working with flowers, and spending time with family and friends. I look forward to meeting you and learning about what you love to do.
See you soon! 🙋🏻‍♀️
Ms. Lori
