Beginner Level
I will perform the story over the length of our class time together stopping periodically to ask and answer questions and give students the opportunity to engage each other. This dramatic interactive class immerses students into not only the narrative of the "Tell-Tale Heart" but into 19th century American Literature as Poe lived it. He often read his stories and poems in paid lecture halls and in upscale Victorian homes where only the very wealthy interacted with Poe. Through interactive discussions, dramatic readings, and creative activities, students will uncover the secrets behind Poe's masterful use of language and psychological horror.
Learning Goals
Use context clues to understand and find the definitions of words used in the 19th century.
Discuss and experience a guided reading so that students can comprehend the unreliable narrator.
Other Details
Learning Needs
Learners will experience this story as I read it to them, acting out portions, creating voices and engaging learners that my struggle with reading comprehension. Students can follow along as I read or can just listen and learn.
Parental Guidance
Parents should note that the guided reading is directed towards a middle school reading level and experience. However, it does involve some graphic elements that are not overly discussion class, but are present. We will not read the entire story in this self pace class and thus it is not necessarily as graphic as the full story.
